While Ritchie himself wasn’t directly involved in this spin-off/sequel show, it did have some serious talent behind it, including a cast made up of Rupert Grint, Luke Pasqualino, Lucien Laviscount, Phoebe Dynevor, Dougray Scott and more. An entertaining romp of a crime caper flick that wants to be funny more than it wants to be dangerous or mysterious. A gang of robbers disguised as Orthodox Jews steal an 86-carat (17.2 g) diamond during a heist in Antwerp. Franky Four-Fingers, the gang’s leader, goes to London to see diamond dealer Doug the Head on behalf of Jewish-American organized crime figure Cousin Avi to fence the stolen diamonds. Franky is told to visit arms dealer and ex-KGB agent Boris the Blade in London by one of the robbers, who tells Boris, his brother, to steal the diamond from Franky. Based on a comic book series with the same name by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, Resident Alien has three seasons so far, with a fourth currently in the works.

This was all planned by Mickey, avenging his mother while making huge winnings by secretly betting on himself. Confronted by Sol, Vinny, and Tyrone at a pub, Tony scares them off after noticing their guns are harmless replicas. A heavily armed Boris arrives and is killed by Tony, while Sol and Vinny escape with the diamond. Tony catches up to them, and they lie that the diamond is at their pawn shop, where Vinny accuses his dog, which he was given earlier by the Travellers, of eating it.
Brick Top sends his men to the Travellers’ camp, prepared to kill them all if Mickey fails. Making it to the fourth round per Brick Top’s plan, Mickey is knocked down, but recovers at the last moment and once again knocks out his opponent with one punch. Before they can kill Tommy, Turkish, and Mickey, Brick Top and his men are ambushed and massacred by the Travellers.

The show has received a mixed reception from fans over the years and has scored 39% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatoemeter and 68% on the site’s popcornmeter, with some viewers criticising the ‘poor script’ and others dubbing the series a ‘must-watch’. Both instalments, containing ten episodes each, were added to Netflix earlier this month and has since soared up charts and hit number ten of the top shows in the UK on the streaming platform this week. Netflix fans have rushed to binge a ‘must-watch’ comedy series with Harry Potter and Skins stars in lead roles. When a street fight promoter gets tangled in a high-stakes heist, chaos erupts – with double-crosses, dodgy deals and bullets flying in every direction. It’s a twisting, witty, and wise crime-boxing story about the hunt for a huge diamond and a Snatch prizefighter who can’t take a fall. Though perhaps a case of style over substance, Guy Ritchie’s second crime caper is full of snappy dialogue, dark comedy, and interesting characters.

The original film starred the likes of Jason Statham, Stephen Graham, and Brad Pitt, as it followed a ruthless gangster in a criminal underworld. Grint is, of course, best known for playing Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter film series. However, he has also had notable roles in series including Sick Note, The ABC Murders, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities and Servant, as well as the film Knock at the Cabin. However, The Gentlemen isn’t the first time one of Ritchie’s films was adapted for the small screen – in fact, a series based on his classic 2000 film Snatch was first released back in 2017 on streaming service Crackle. The film contains two intertwined plots, one dealing with the search for a stolen diamond, the other with a small-time boxing promoter who finds himself under the thumb of a ruthless gangster who is ready and willing to have his subordinates carry out severe and sadistic acts of violence. Entrepreneurial and unscrupulous boxing promoter Turkish convinces gangster Brick Top to place bets on bare-knuckle boxer Mickey in a rigged match. Throw in Russian gangsters, amateur robbers, and a priceless stolen 82-carat diamond, and you’ve got this fast-paced, testosterone-filled film set in London’s criminal underworld.

Guy Ritchie follows up Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels with another tasty crime caper set in London’s well ‘ard East End.
